Mental Health IOP Programs

It’s estimated that as many as one in five adolescents may have a mental health disorder that can be identified and treated.

Tweens and Teens Ages 12-18

Young people can have mental, emotional, and behavioral problems that are real and painful, and are sources of stress for them and their families, schools, and communities. A great deal of our work focuses on developmental processes, with the goal of helping tweens and teens develop appropriate skills and emotional regulation to prepare them to become healthy adults. Our outpatient Tweens and Teens Programs treat adolescents ages 12-18. The program takes place on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings to not interfere with the kids’ schooling. Our patients receive specialized and age-appropriate care as we are one of the only mental health IOP agencies in the area with a board certified child and adolescent psychiatrist on staff. After all, disorders that present themselves in childhood and adolescence can manifest differently than those in adulthood. We believe family is a key factor in the treatment of the adolescent patient, therefore the family and the treatment team work closely together to achieve the best outcomes for patient’s well-being in this program.

Our tween and teen IOP treatment is intended to provide crisis stabilization and consists of group therapy where the teens feel they are not alone and understand their issues are not unique to them.  The program also includes an initial psychiatric evaluation and continued oversight by a psychiatrist who specializes in child or adolescents.

ABC groups can help with a variety of behavioral health and substance use issues including:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Trauma
  • Self-harm
  • Suicidal Ideation
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)
  • School Phobia
  • Eating Disorders
  • Gender/Identity
  • Marijuana, alcohol, opioid and other substance use

After completion of the IOP program, clients may continue to stay under the care of the psychiatrist.  To continue the support after successful program completion, ABC also offers teens the option to attend a once-a-week 90-minute Aftercare Program that aides the adolescent to stay connected to a dynamic support group until they are ready to exit. ABC also recommends individual and family therapy along with IOP, as well as after IOP completion.

Our families and parents are encouraged to attend a weekly complementary one-hour Parent Group as a part of this program.  Groups are led by psychiatrists, pharmacists, and counselors and cover a variety of topics such as medication awareness and education, communication techniques, good coping skills and strategies, relationships and boundaries, and healthy parenting skills and are held while the teen client is in group.

But the first step is to schedule a free clinical phone consultation with us. We will gather some information about your specific needs and concerns, and determine the appropriate level of care and group for your situation.
