Intensive Outpatient Program Description of Services

We treat adults both men and women.  Age ranges 18 to 50 and over.  The treatment team consists of Psychiatrists, Counselors/Therapists, Dietitians, Yoga Instructors, and Nurse Practitioners.  The program is typically 30 Days long, and patients will have the option to continue, particularly if the treatment team believes it is clinically necessary.  The length of the continuation will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

A typical course of treatment would be:

*30 Days IOP
*Along with this, most patients stay in Individual Psychotherapy and Nutrition therapy for about a year after completing our 30 day course.

Description of IOP Program:

Alternative Behavioral Care provides a quality Intensive Outpatient Eating Disorder Program.  We treat anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorder (compulsive eating), emotional eating and all types of disconnection from our bodies.  Our goal is to empower each person to move their "best" self and thereby learning new ways to cope with stress, anxiety and depression.  Group therapy has been validated by research to be the most effective form of treatment for Eating Disorders.  We treat the whole family into the recovery process since each person in the family is significantly impacted by the eating disorder.

Our small group environment enables change in a very safe, gentle
way.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you take insurance?

We do accept most major insurances.  If we are an in-network provider your insurance should cover the majority of your care.  However, you will be responsible for any co-pays and medication costs.

What type of medical clearance is required to enter the program?

Alternative Behavioral Care requires a medical clearance before entering the outpatient program.  This clearance ensures that you are medically stable and suitable for an IOP.  Ongoing medical visits to a physician will be required.  Additionally, Alternative Behavioral Care is well connected with the physician who will perform your screening.  Early medical intervention can prevent the long term complications that can present with eating disorders.

What is the involvement of family members?

Incorporation of family members into the program is a key factor in recovery.  At Alternative Behavioral Care we treat the whole family.  Our program consists of weekly family groups.  Family members are very instrumental in supporting healthy recovery.  There are cases where a patient may prefer not to have family involvement because of issues that may impede their recovery.

What are the ages of the patients?

At any given time on the unit we have a variety of ages, ranging from age 18 and up.  The content of groups is monitored so as they meet the needs of the current patient population.

Alternative Behavioral Care is a JCAHO accredited program.
